The Risk-X Institute is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Full Stack Developer, Back End to support the work of the institute and its scientific research programmes. The research institute is established by the Southern University of Science and Technology (Shenzhen, China) in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich, Switzerland). The position offers the opportunity to work in a developing, multicultural environment with teams researching diverse topics such as risks in finance, earthquakes, real estate, geo hazards, energy, epidemics, catastrophic risks, social networks, cyber security etc. for the betterment of society through practical research.

？ Design, develop, test, maintain the back ends of user-facing products.

Key skills

Minimal Qualifications:

？ Have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent background (e.g, diploma with experience)

？ Much desire and enthusiasm to work with a dynamic, growing and hard-working group

？ A "yes and" attitude instead of a "no but” attitude

？ English as a working language to ensure the communication with our international team

？ Experience with one or more of the following: JavaScript, Python or Java.

？ Experience with web technologies (object-oriented JavaScript, HTML, CSS), and experience with web standards.

？ Experience with SQL databases and handling large amounts of data (In order of TB’s)

？ Experience in working with, developing and deploying RESTful web APIs

？ Experience with build deployment/management tools like docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes.

？ Experience working with two or more from the following: web application development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems and/or developing large software systems.

？ Be versatile and able to develop with the growing needs of the Risks-X institute

？ Be customer oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

？ Master’s, PhD degree, further education or experience in engineering, computer science or other technical related field.

？ 2+ years of industry experience.

？ Demonstrated sense of developing production quality, scalable solutions.

？ Ability to communicate to all levels of users (internal and external), demonstrated problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership.

Cherry on ice:

？ Support frontend efforts on need basis and contribute in technology stack selection decision making.
