Your Role…

AREA: Role of human microbiome in COVID-19

DESCRIPTION:

The Systems Ecology group at the LCSB led by Prof. Wilmes is further expanding its research efforts on human microbiome and has an immediate opening for

a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher.

The project is a comprehensive research framework study that aims at addressing key unanswered questions related to COVID-19, focusing specifically on

the long-term health impact of COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with alterations of the human gut microbiome composition that persists for at

least six months after the initial infection. An imbalance in the gut microbiome can be linked to disease severity and an increased post-COVID-19 risk.

Transfer of microorganisms from the oral and nasal cavities to the gut represent a direct link between the environment-exposed oral cavity and the

indirectly exposed gut. In particular, Postdoctoral researcher will work on resolving alterations of the oral, nasal and gut microbiomes in relation to

COVID-19 and long COVID, as well as analysing the association between emerging and existing COVID-19 variants along with other pathogens and alterations

of the microbiome on breakthrough infections and re-infections.
