Postdoctoral Research Scientist - Prof J Le Quesne
Cancer Research UK
Description
About us
The CRUK Beatson Institute where the lab is based is a world leading cancer research institute, situated in the vibrant city of Glasgow in Scotland and hosting approximately 60 postdoctoral researcher scientists at any one time. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis.
Project outline
A postdoctoral position is offered in the Deep Phenotyping group headed by Professor John Le Quesne. As a group we apply the latest in quantitative image-forming pathological and molecular methods to human and model tissues to understand how tumours function at the cellular level.
The project addresses a key question in solid tumour biology; what is the significance of epithelial plasticity, and how does it influence the clinicopathological tumour behaviour? We find that phenotypic plasticity underlies the most lethal morphologies in lung adenocarcinoma; how does this drive hallmark tumour behaviour such as metastasis?
We house and use the very latest in quantitative multiplex imaging and spatial transcriptomic technologies, and apply them to large cohorts of archival human mouse model tumour tissues. The successful applicant will work with data generated by our own expert technical team, by our core facilities, and with collaborators. You will use this data to answer a range of key questions about tumour cell plasticity, and there is potential both for clinical translation and in vivo modelling.
You must have a PhD in a relevant field, be ambitious, and driven by scientific curiosity. Exisiting skills with regard to digital pathology, quantitative image analysis (eg QuPath, visiopharm) and bioinformatic methods are all desirable.
To find out more about this unique opportunity to establish advanced skills and expertise in this exciting field please contact: Professor John Le Quesne, john.lequesne@glasgow.ac.uk.
Postdoc support
Postdocs are key members of our research community, and we offer them a range of opportunities to train and develop as researchers while they are with us:
Exciting, innovative cancer research projects in state-of-the art labs
A highly collaborative and interactive research environment
Access to and training in key advanced technologies, for example imaging and in vivo modelling
A mentor enabling scheme to aid personal and professional development
A rich programme of scientific exchange through seminars, workshops and meetings
Support to make fellowship and small grant applications, including during their transition to their next position
Guidance and mentoring to compete for an independent scientist position as well as a multitude of other career options, including in industry.
A highly engaged postdoc forum, providing peer support, training, careers advice and regular social events
Closing Date for Applications : 28 October 2022 but we will contact promising candidates on a rolling basis, so please apply as soon as you are ready.
