Job Description

Overview

The Noble Research Institute, LLC is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to research the evolutionary genetics of fungal attack initiated by spores. The research will include generation of expression data from germination of Epichloë spores, generating gene knockouts and phenotyping transformants. Research will be in the Mycology group under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Young.

Funding for this temporary position is through a grant from USDA with an anticipate start date of April 15, 2020. Funding is anticipated to be renewed annually based upon performance and funding availability for a potential of up to three years with a funding end date of April 14, 2023.

This job has been designated as “safety sensitive” under state law, due to the essential functions in the attached job description.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments in the laboratory and greenhouse and data analysis and interpretation to support gene discovery associated with spore germination. Additional duties include but are not limited to development of gene knockouts, microscopy to evaluate spore germination and phenotyping knockouts, maintenance of fungal cultures, diligent and timely design and implementation of research activities, presentation of the data at scientific meetings, preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and participation in the Institute’s professional development program.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in mycology, plant pathology, biology, plant biology, genetics or related area is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in fungal biology and molecular biology. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative research atmosphere are required.
